Acceptable Use Policy
When you book a host, your traffic leaves through their home internet connection, under their name with their internet provider. Anything you do online can land on them. These rules protect the hosts who make the network possible.
You may
- Work, browse, stream, and make video calls, at full speed.
- Use your employer’s VPN or remote-desktop tools over the connection.
- Let people travelling with you use your connection through your travel router’s Wi-Fi.
You must not
- Download or share copyrighted material without permission, including torrents of films, shows, music, games or software.
- Send spam or bulk unsolicited messages. (Sending email straight to mail servers is blocked; your email apps still work. See what’s blocked.)
- Scan, probe, attack or try to break into any system or network, or run denial-of-service traffic.
- Spread malware, run botnets, or host phishing or scam pages.
- Create, view or share child sexual abuse material. We report it to the authorities and close the account.
- Commit fraud or any other crime, or harass or threaten anyone.
- Try to reach the host’s home network, devices or router, or get around the walls that keep you out.
- Give your connection settings (the connection file or QR code) or your login to anyone else, or resell access.
- Hold more than one account, or open a new one after yours is closed.
You’re responsible for your booking
You’re responsible for everything done through your booking or your account, including by anyone you let use it, such as people on your travel router’s Wi-Fi. If someone else may have your connection file or QR code, check out and book again: you get a new key, and the old one stops working.
Your identity
Before your first booking you verify your ID with our provider, Stripe: a photo of your ID and a selfie. Stripe keeps those images. We keep only whether you passed and a coded fingerprint of your name and date of birth, which lets us recognize a closed account that comes back under a new email. Hosts never learn who you are.
What we record
For each booking: your account, the host, when it started and ended, its port block, and how much data it used each minute. We never record where your data goes: no sites, no addresses. Per-minute data is deleted after six months. We use these records to answer abuse reports, and we hand them over only when the law requires it.
If a host’s internet provider reports abuse
- We act only when the evidence points to your booking: the port and time on the notice, and data moving through your booking at that moment.
- You see what was reported and when, and can give your side. You never see which host reported it.
- A first copyright notice is a warning. A second closes the account.
- Attacks, spam, malware and abuse material suspend the account at once while we investigate, and can close it.
- A suspended or closed account can’t book, and any booking it has ends immediately.
Hosts can pause
A host can pause hosting at any time, which ends every booking on their connection within seconds. Book another host to reconnect.
Changes
When this policy changes we’ll show you what changed and ask you to agree again before your next booking.
